2. Pic du Midi de Bigorre - Bagneres

At an altitude of 2,877 metres, Pic du Midi de Bigorre offers some of the most breathtaking views in the French Pyrenees . Famous for the observatory that sits atop the mountain, the 42-inch telescope was installed in 1963 and was used to take detailed photographs of the surface of the moon in preparation for the Apollo missions. The cable car to Pic Du Midi operates from the ski resort town of La Mongie, which has numerous restaurants, cafes and shops and is less than a 90 minute drive from Le Belvedere.
