3. Château de Pau

The Château de Pau is a castle in the centre of the city of Pau, the capital of Pyrénées-Atlantiques and Béarn. It is the birthplace of Henry IV of France and Navarre and it was used by Napoleon as a holiday home during his period of power. The castle was also used as a presidential residence in the Republic before becoming the National Museum that it is today, housing exquisite examples of period furnishings, tapestries, manicured gardens and artistic works from the period of Henry IV. It currently hosts over 100,000 visitors annually, making it the most visited heritage site of Pyrénées-Atlantiques and is less than a 1 hour drive from Le Belvedere
