6. Saint Jean Pied de Port

Saint Jean Pied de Port is a beautiful bustling medieval French market town in the foothills of the Pyrenees. The town has traditionally been an important point on the Way of St. James, the pilgrimage to Santiago de Compostela, as it stands at the base of the Roncevaux Pass across the Pyrenees. Pied-de-Port means 'foot of the pass' in Pyrenean French, the pilgrims' last stop before the arduous mountain crossing. The markets are great place to pick up some locally crafted wicker baskets and lauburu decorated pottery. Saint Jean Pied de Port is a 2 hour drive from LeBelvedere. There are plenty of accommodation options in the town should you wish to make it an overnight trip.
